Cold and flu is a viral infectious disease primarily affecting the nose and resulting in fever. It can be air borne, by contact with an affected person or due to weather conditions. Symptoms range from nausea, cough, running nose, fever, pain etc. These symptoms occur due to body’s immune response i.e., Histamine a natural chemical released to fight the infection.

Ginger And Honey Tea
Take a small piece of ginger, smash it well, mix it with one cup of pure drinking water, add one table spoon of honey, heat well, strain and sip it. Ginger has got antioxidant properties which boosts the immune system and antihistamine properties which fights cold and honey has got analgesic properties which relieves you from pain and fever.Ginger is not recommended to young children and honey is not recommended for children’s below the age of 1 due to risk of infant boutalism, a rare but severe form of food poisoning
Turmeric, Pepper With Milk
This home remedy is tasty and is liked by most of us. Take a cup of milk, boil it add one small tablespoon turmeric , half tablespoon pepper and also you can add sugar as per your requirement and have it in cold. Turmeric has got antihistamine, antioxidant and and allergic properties while pepper is a good source of many antioxidant vitamins, is an expectorant and has got analgesic properties.
Tamarind, Pepper Rasam
This can be taken as a soup in cold. The preparation is easy. Take a small ball half the size of the lemon; soak it in water for half an hour. Mash it well in soaked water. Remove the pulp add salt as per your requirement boil it .In a separate pan take one table spoon of melted clarified butter and add half tablespoon of pepper on the same.Put this mixture in the boiling tamarind water. Heat for a few minutes and have it as pepper has got antioxidant vitamins which are helpful in relieving cold.
Garlic Onion Soup
Put four or five cloves of garlic in a cup of water add to it sliced onions. Boil it accordingly. Add salt and pepper for taste. Garlic has got antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties as well Vitamin B and C, Flavanoids (antioxidant). Onion is also high in anti oxidant which helps to boost the immune response and added pepper is also a good source of antioxidant,expectorant and an analgesic. So the combination of three will surely relieve you from cold and flu.
Lemon And Honey Tea
If common cold is not a regular affair in your life, and its occurances are rare then you can opt for lemon and honey tea as it has got anti viral and immune boosting properties and it brings sweat which is good for getting relief from cold.The analgesic properties of Honey will relieve you from pain and fever. If cold catches on you frequently, then don’t opt for citrus fruits as it has got histamine properties, better opt for other options and consult your doctor.
