Using ground cloves or clove oil is one of the most popular herbal remedy for toothache. Cloves contain the chemical eugenol which is a natural antiseptic. Take a few drops of clove oil on a cotton ball and apply it directly on the painful area.

Alternatively you may chew clove seeds directly or cloves dipped in some honey. You may also make a paste of grounded cloves with water and olive oil. Try to avoid applying to gums as it may cause irritation.

Tea tree oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with water and use it to clean your mouth. It provides rapid relief to inflamed gums.

You may make a compress from ginger powder to alleviate toothache. Grind ginger roots. Add half teaspoon of water to one teaspoon of powdered ginger roots to form a paste.

Apply the paste directly on the affected tooth using a cotton ball. In case it causes excess irritation, then rinse your mouth with cold water.

Cayenne pepper is another herb which helps to cure toothache. It contains a hot ingredient called capsaicin which restricts transmission of pain. Mix a smidge of cayenne pepper with hot water. Dip a cotton swab in the solution and apply directly over the painful area.

You may also make a mixture of one teaspoon cayenne pepper with one part whiskey. Allow the mixture to stay for two weeks and then strain it in a dark coloured bottle. Take 2-3 drops of the mixture over cotton and apply on the painful tooth.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and pain relieving properties. To cure toothache, make a paste of one teaspoon of turmeric with half teaspoon of water.

Apply it directly over the affected tooth. Alternatively prepare a paste of one teaspoon of turmeric and half teaspoon of salt with mustard oil and apply over the painful area.
