Fungal infections are very contagious and often a serious public health hazard. These fungi are always present in places where people congregate such as the floors of public swimming pools, public bathrooms, locker rooms and other such places where humans can get exposed to the fungal spores. Basic hygiene is very important to prevent the spread of these infections. Fungal infections can affect the fingernails, toenails, scalp, hands and feet and genital area. They can also affect the respiratory tract, digestive tract and the urinary tract.

In most fungal infections, the skin becomes red and flaky and there is intense burning and itching. Cracks appear on the skin and it starts peeling. Often there is an unpleasant odor which is very repulsive. There is often a stinging sensation in-between the toes and the nails become crumbly.
