Lemon

Lemon juice is the best available home remedy for treating dryness of scalp. Lemon has enzymes that kill the bacteria that are cause of dandruff. These enzymes also help lock in the natural oils to the scalp that reduces dryness. Using lemon for curing dryness is very easy. Take a medium sized ripe lemon and cut it into two halves. Divide your hair into manageable sections so that the scalp is easily visible.


Lemon Juice


Remove the seeds from the lemon and start rubbing one half of the lemon on the scalp. Keep squeezing the lemon as you go. Use the other half of the lemon as well if required. You need to rub lemon only on your scalp and not on the hair. Do not rub vigorously or you will break your hair from their roots. Leave the lemon juice on the scalp for 30 minutes and then gently massage your head. Wash your hair using plain water only. This treatment should be done every alternate day for three weeks. On the days that you don’t use lemon, wash hair with mild shampoo.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is widely used in shampoos and conditioners specifically meant for dry and rough hair. Castor oil is very thick and does not wash easily from hair even if shampoo is used. Hence, it is ideal for moisturizing the hair as well as the scalp. Take a microwavable bowl and microwave it for 2 minutes. Take the bowl out and pour castor oil in the warm bowl.

Apply the oil on your scalp as well as hair. Massage your scalp gently while you apply the oil. Leave on overnight. Wear shower cap to bed or castor oil will stain your pillow case and bed sheet. in the morning wash your hair twice using shampoo and warm water. If you wish to leave the oil longer in the hair then wash only once. The treatment should be done thrice a week. Castor oil is also very effective in reversing hair loss along with treating dry and itchy scalp.

Mayonnaise

Many of you may raise your eyebrows at this hair treatment but mayonnaise has been known to help cure dry and itchy scalp. It restores the natural moisture of the scalp thus reducing itchiness. Take half a cup plain mayonnaise and add one beaten egg to it. Mix well. This mixture will smell a lot so add two teaspoons of finely powdered coffee to make the smell of the mixture bearable. Apply the mayonnaise mix on your scalp and hair.

Take care to cover the tips of the hair well. Leave on for a couple of hours or even overnight. Wash hair using shampoo and warm water. You may have to shampoo twice to get rid of the mayonnaise completely. You will be amazed at the difference in your scalp and hair after only one use of mayonnaise. Olive Oil

Olive oil works much like castor oil in restoring the natural moisture of the scalp. However, unlike castor oil olive oil doesn’t smell. Warm the olive oil and gently massage it into your scalp. Apply the oil on your hair as well taking special care to treat the tips of your hair with the oil. if possible, ask a family member or friend to massage your scalp vigorously for 30 seconds and then gently for two minutes. Repeat this procedure 4-5 times.

Now soak a clean bath towel in very hot water for five minutes. Put the towel in the dryer. Now wrap your hair with this warm towel. Leave on for 20 minutes. Wash hair using shampoo and warm water. This treatment is very effective in locking in the natural moisture of the body to the scalp as well as the hair. Do the treatment at least twice a day to get rid of the dry and itchy scalp fast.

Honey

Honey is a natural moisturizer and also contains enzymes that help lock in the moisture in the scalp as well as in the hair shafts. Mixing honey with banana or curd is an excellent remedy for dry scalp and hair. Take two ripe bananas and mash them well. Mix 20ml of warm honey with the bananas and apply this natural conditioner to your scalp. For hair, use only honey and not the bananas. Leave the honey-banana mixture on the scalp for 45 minutes. Wash using shampoo and water. Honey and banana will help moisturize the scalp as well as make the hair smooth and shiny.
