Astigmatism is an eye condition in which the cornea of the eye is oval rather than round. This affects the eyesight and results in poor vision. The light rays when they enter the eyes, become distorted and do not converge to form a single point of focus. This causes the eyes to focus on two points instead of one. The consequences of this are blurred vision, headaches, fatigue and pain in the eyes. In addition to this, the vision is not clear.

Straight lines appear crooked or wavy and some lines going in a particular direction are clearer than others going in different directions. The primary cause of astigmatism is an oval cornea which can become distorted due to poor posture and keeping the head tilted for prolonged periods. 1. Spinach

According to ayurveda stress should be laid on fresh foods and vegetables which are full of valuable nutrients and powerful antioxidants to cure astigmatism.Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin A, potassium, iron and calcium. It is also full of beta carotene and lutein which help maintain healthy eyes and clear vision. Steam a cup of fresh spinach leaves and eat it twice daily [1].


2. Egg Yolk

Egg yolk is very rich in carotenoids which are one of the most powerful anti-oxidants. Eat organic eggs either soft boiled or poached. Raw eggs give the greatest amounts of nutrients. The carotenoids are very heat sensitive and can be easily destroyed by cooking. Wash two eggs and crack them [2].

Separate the whites from the yolks. Whisk the eggs yolks into a bowl and mix it in a glass of milk and drink it twice daily. The muscles and the nerves in the eyes will be considerably strengthened and the vision will be greatly improved.

3. Amla

Amla is a wonderful fruit with stupendous healing and curative powers. It is a good source of valuable nutrients and it has the most amazing quantities of vitamin C which is the most powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.Remove the seeds from fresh amlas and extract their juice in a juice extractor. Drink half a cup of this juice daily. You can add some honey to the juice if you prefer. The eye muscles will regain their elasticity and improve the depth of perception.


4. Goji Berries

Goji beeries are found in the higher altitudes of the Himalayas. These red berries are usually found dry and look like red raisins. They are a rich source of carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin which are powerful antioxidants and which protect the eyes and improve their function. You can eat the berries raw or you can brew a tea out of them by boiling a few berries in a glass of water for five minutes.

5. Cacao

Cacao is very rich in flavonoids which have the most potent antioxidant activities. They scavenge all the free radicals and destroy them successfully.They maintain the health of the eyes and improve vision. Take on tablespoon of cacao powder and add one tablespoon of raw honey to it. Consume this mixture once or twice daily [5].
